Queen Movie Amping Up With Bryan Singer & Rami Malek As Freddie Mercury

Bryan Singer is in talks to direct Bohemian Rhapsody, the long-in-the-works movie about the seminal British rock band Queen, with Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek playing frontman Freddie Mercury. The film is coming back together and is on the fast track at 2oth Century Fox and New Regency with original producer Graham King and his GK Films.

Fox and New Regency have stepped up for the joint project in the latest maneuver for a movie that has been in development with King for eight years. The most recent script, which focuses on the band and its iconic lead singer, is from The Theory of Everything scribe Anthony McCarten. King and Jim Beach are producers, and Denis O’Sullivan is exec producer. Original Queen bandmembers Brian May and Roger Taylor will serve as music producers. It’s being eyed to shoot early next year.

Viola Davis to Star in Steve McQueen Heist Thriller "Widows" for New Regency

Viola Davis will star in Steve McQueen’s upcoming heist thriller “Widows” for New Regency.

“Gone Girl” screenwriter and novelist Gillian Flynn is on board to pen the script with McQueen.

Based on the 1983 British miniseries about a caper gone wrong, the story follows four armed robbers who get killed in a failed heist attempt, leaving their widows to finish the job.

The film will be produced by McQueen, and Iain Canning and Emile Sherman of See-Saw Films, who teamed with McQueen on “Shame” and also produced the best picture Oscar winner “The Kings Speech.” Film 4 is co-financing with New Regency.

Jason Isaacs to Play Villain in Gore Verbinski's A Cure For Wellness

Isaacs will play the facility’s director, an aristocratic man who has dark designs on a patient (Goth).

Production is slated to start in Europe in June, and the film will be distributed worldwide through New Regency’s deal with 20th Century Fox.

Dane DeHaan, Mia Goth Joining Gore Verbinski's 'A Cure for Wellness'

Director Gore Verbinski has found the leads for his supernatural horror project A Cure for Wellness: Dane DeHaan and Mia Goth.

Revolutionary Road scribe Justin Haythe is writing the script for the New Regency project.

Wellness tells the story of an employee (DeHaan) who is sent to rescue his boss from a European “wellness spa” but soon realizes he's trapped, and discovers that the facility has a more sinister purpose than just serving the health needs of its patients. Goth, who is in negotiations for the role, will play a longtime patient who is oblivious to the spa director's dark designs for her.

Gillian Flynn Joins Steve McQueen To Script New Regency Heist Thriller

Gillian Flynn has been set by the financier/producer to join 12 Years A Slave helmer Steve McQueen to co-write a heist thriller that McQueen will direct. The thriller is based on the 2002 British miniseries Widows, which was written by Prime Suspect‘s Lynda La Plante

Bella Thorne has joined the cast of Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip

The animated/live-action film is set to release on December 23.

DiCaprio's Appian Way has come aboard to produce The Crowded Room with New Regency, while Jason Smilovic and Todd Katzberg have been hired to write the adapted script.

Assassin’s Creed Production will begin in early fall

Marion Cotillard has signed on to star with Michael Fassbender in the Justin Kurzel-directed Assassin’s Creed, the live-action adaptation of the Ubisoft video game. Fox will distribute and the film is being co-financed by RatPac and Alpha Pictures.

Frank Marshall, Arnon Milchan, Jean-Julien Baronnet, Conor McCaughan, Fassbender and Pat Crowley are producing. Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Michael Lesslie scripted.

STEVE MCQUEEN TO WRITE, DIRECT AND PRODUCE HEIST THRILLER

Academy Award®-winner Steve McQueen will write, direct and produce a new heist thriller for New Regency, it was announced today by Brad Weston, president and CEO. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman (“The Kings Speech” and McQueen’s upcoming HBO project “Codes of Conduct”) will produce along with McQueen. The film is expected to begin pre-production before the end of the year.

McQueen is writing the feature, based on the British mini-series “Widows” which was written by BAFTA award-winning writer Lynda La Plante (“Prime Suspect”). “Widows” begins when four armed robbers are killed during a robbery and their surviving widows come together to try to finish the failed job.

“After the tremendous success and the amazing journey we experienced together on ‘12 Years A Slave,’ we formed a true friendship with Steve,” said Weston. “He is like family to all of us here at New Regency and we are thrilled he has entrusted us with this project. We can’t wait to collaborate with him once again.”

Wytches follows Charles Rooks, a loving father who moves his family to a neighboring town in an attempt to help their teenage daughter Sailor recover from a disturbing run-in with a bully. She remains haunted by the traumatic incident, unsure of what actually occurred in the woods and unable to escape a darkness growing around her. When Sailor begins to see familiar shadowed figures, Charles must help his daughter survive a terrifyingly real and mythic presence rooted within the woods and the surrounding local towns.

New Regency and Walden Media Partner for “Santa Is Real”. Stephen Chbosky to Direct

New Regency and Walden Media are partnering to develop, finance and produce the musical family film “Santa Is Real,” it was announced today by Pam Abdy, New Regency’s president of production and Walden Media COO Frank Smith. Stephen Chbosky (“The Perks of Being a Wallflower”) is set to direct and Larry Stuckey (“Little Fockers”) will write. Stacey Sher and Alexandra Milchan are producing the film alongside Walden Media.

“Santa Is Real” is based on the upcoming book Santa Claus Is For Real: A True Christmas Fable About the Magic of Believing by Charles E. Hall and Bret Witter (Random House, October 14). The film tells the story of Charles Hall, the man who plays Santa in Radio City's Christmas Spectacular. When he took the job he was just a struggling actor looking to save his career, but the role ended up saving his life. The show's success also rescued Radio City, and for the last 27 years Santa and his Christmas magic have continued to inspire everyone to believe.

Walden Media’s Vice President of Development and Production, Naia Cucukov, will oversee the project on behalf of Walden.
